Puzzle from the Weekend FT of June 27, 2026

We have lost Wendy Law, our own Zamorca, the queen of pangrams.  I think this puzzle of hers from a Friday stands as a fine tribute.

If my records are correct we have had only 19 Zamorca crosswords in the Weekend slot over five years.  But she will be missed.

I am not blogging the puzzle again and refer you to the original blog at https://fifteensquared.net/2023/03/24/financial-times-17366-by-zamorca/

I felt sad completing this thinking how much I will miss Zamorca’s setting style and her signature pangram. It’s noteworthy how very naturally those pangrams would emerge. She was indeed Queen of the pangrams.

I couldnt remember if I had done this before but from Pete’s comment, I see that I had done this puzzle previously. No matter, as I was happy to do it again.

Again, I found it very entertaining. My last one in was PEEVE which smoothly incorporated my last missing letter of the alphabet. I still liked including CHATEAU, CABINET MINISTER and this time, CAPRI (for the missing the ‘corn’). Of course, ‘capri pants’ are cropped too!

Thanks to the FT for this tribute and to Pete for the blog.

I was saddened to hear the news, she was one of my favourite setters. I had much fun chasing down the pangram, and the last missing letters often helped me with the last difficult clues.

I always smiled when I saw Zamora as the setter, and found her puzzles tough and fair. RIP Wendy, and thanks for all the entertainment.

Thanks for the blog and a nice tribute from the FT to repeat this puzzle , I did not do it the first time so it was new to me and as always I enjoyed the neat and precise clues .

I always enjoyed Zamora’s puzzles – she is on my list of favourite FT setters.

Since I only started trying FT puzzles a couple of years ago I had not seen this one and enjoyed it very much. I think I might look for some other older puzzles of hers to try on days when the setter is too tough for me.

It must have been difficult to select a puzzle for the tribute as she always set at a consistently high standard.

What Roz@3 said. A popular setter.
