I found this tricky in places, possibly because 60% of the clues had an answer or part of the wordplay (or both in some cases) that was a word/term which I hadn’t met … Read more >>

An easier Everyman than the last one I blogged
A couple of downright obscure words in here but on the whole quite amenable given enough time to think about it. Thank you AZED.
I’m not sure I’ve blogged a Rorschach before. Certainly I had very little idea what to expect. This was jolly good though. I managed to finish unaided, even if it did take a … Read more >>
Here’s the preamble in full:
Clues are presented in the correct order. The completed grid, which does not have one letter per square, displays mirror symmetry, and resembles the item given by the unclued entry (verifiable, though not the precise form used, in the Oxford Dictionary of English). Clue numbers and bars must not be entered. Those letters which are not one per square, when combined with those in the four shaded cells, can be rearranged to give a thematic word which must be written under the grid. Chambers Dictionary (2014) is recommended, but does not contain one reasonably common foreign word; one entry is an abbreviation.

Quite amazingly difficult, for me at any rate, who took ages. Tyrus sails fairly close to the wind but is so far as I can see ultimately fair. I didn’t really enjoy this because it was such a slog, but perhaps if I hadn’t had the pressure of blogging, it would have been easier. It will be interesting to see how people got on.
I used to look forward to a puzzle from Paul but this has changed in recent months, probably due to that old adage regarding familiarity. I would have appreciated this puzzle far more … Read more >>
A very pleasant and fairly-clued start to the day. Thanks, Sleuth, if you’re reading this.

Dante – so, an easy start of the week?
Usually I would say ‘yes’ but I have to admit that this one was some kind of a minor struggle for me.
Prize puzzle from the Weekend FT of May 23, 2015 I found this Mudd much easier than other recent puzzles of his. Only one clue gave me significant trouble; that was 13a (LEG … Read more >>
Very nice puzzle, no quibbles from me. Thanks Aardark.
