The York Sloggers & Betters gathering is an opportunity for new or less prolific setters to display their talents and gain feedback from other solvers.
Last year there at least 12 puzzles that were distributed at the gathering. I use that figure as that was the number of puzzles that were blogged on fifteensquared the following day.
Now is the time to call for puzzles for this year’s gathering. There are potentially 12 bloggers available already, so for the moment, I am seeking 12 puzzles for submission.
The puzzles should be test solved before submission. The submission should include clues, solution and parsing. The bloggers will be sent only the clues and the empty grid. With your submission, please confirm that the puzzle has been test solved.
The puzzles will be made available to solvers at the Marcia Ian, Bishopthorpe on Saturday 24th October. They will also be made available on fifteensquared on the same day. It may be possible to handle more than 12 puzzles on fifteensquared, but 12 seems a sensible limit for distribution at the gathering. At the moment, I can’t guarantee that any more than 12 puzzles will be sent to a blogger.
Blogs will be published on Sunday 25th October.

As it happens I’ve just been working on a puzzle to submit for York. It’s just about finished but I need to round up my test solvers. What is the deadline date, please?

Grid size? Themes allowed? Etc etc

Blocked crosswords are usually 15 * 15
Barred crosswords are usually 12, 13 or 14 cells squares.
Themes are fine, but attendees at the gathering won’t have access to many resources.
However, if you think you have a wonderful themed crossword in an obscure shape, then we will see what we can do.
