I would like to say thank you to the Fifteensquared team members who have all taken time out of their busy schedules to post blogs during the past twelve months. I’m sure your efforts have been much appreciated, particularly by those new or relatively new to cryptic puzzles.

Following comments made today by Anax and eimi in the Indy 7214 post, I have made some changes to the site layout. The ‘Recent Posts’ section in the left-hand sidebar now lists the last 25 posts, which should cover a full week.

Please do not refer to, or comment on, a prize puzzle until after the closing date for entries.

May I please remind contributors to this site of the Discussion Policy regarding multiple identities. These are not allowed. There have been several cases recently where people have posted comments under different names. Those responsible know who they are, as do I. Please desist otherwise you will either be put under moderation or, for persistent offenders, banned.

This month’s version of the monthly e-mail from Guardian xwd ed Hugh Stephenson (presumably sent to me as I was a member when it was a paysite) mentions the blog. I can’t remember whether he’s done so before.

John Henderson posted the following notice elsewhere yesterday. I thought bloggers and readers here would like to know.

So that comments may at times be put more into context, and to perhaps brighten up the site a bit, I have activated graphic emoticons (smileys).

I have added a facility whereby you can preview your comments prior to submitting them should you so wish (a new button under the comment box).

… for a London pub and dinner gathering on Thursday. Please let me know promptly if you would like to come – especially for the dinner part – anyone can turn up at the pub on spec.

As of this week there is a new administrator at Fifteensquared, myself Gaufrid. Chatmeister will cease to exist, instead any relevant comments will be posted under my pseudonym. My aim is to make this site successful and I hope you will help me in this endeavour by complying with the Discussion Policy, that is to say by avoiding significantly off-topic comments in posts related to a specific puzzle, whilst retaining the friendly nature of the site.

As from this week, the Everyman will be blogged again. A blog will be published each Sunday covering the previous weekend’s puzzle. The first post will appear tomorrow (19/4/2009).

At long last, our 5th social gathering for the writers and fans of this blog and the puzzles behind it. Well actually “these blogs” – it’s equally open to folk from fifteensquared, Big Dave’s Telegraph blog, Tony Sever’s RTC3 and anyone else interested.

There’s been some discussion over the last couple of days about off-topic chat: some of you like it, some don’t. In an attempt to accommodate both points of view, we have introduced a chat area containing two threads: one for general crossword discussion and another for everything else. When those two threads get too long and unwieldy, we’ll close them and start new ones.

We have two vacancies on our FT team: Rishi, who has provided excellent coverage of the Tuesday puzzle for a year, has decided to retire at the end of February. Also, Octofem, our Thursday blogger, has to take a break for a couple of months.

This is obviously more relevant for readers of another blog, but if you have friends in need of help with broadsheet dailies, it does a good job for these puzzles in general as well as for the Times in particular. More about it from me in a review on its Amazon UK page.

If you have bought, or are about to buy, the 11th Edition please check it carefully. Today I have found that my copy has pages 1168 to 1216 missing and pages 1217 to 1264 duplicated. This might not be an isolated occurence.

Just in case you’ve not read it anywhere else, the Daily Telegraph has a new cryptic puzzle as from yesterday. In addition to their relatively easy daily anonymous cryptic they now have the Toughie. This is a slightly harder puzzle, probably the same level as the main puzzles in the other broadsheets (although as pointed out elsewhere the Telegraph is technically the only national broadsheet (excluding Scottish-only nationals!)) The puzzle is by named setters and runs from Tuesday to Friday. It is, now, also available via their online Crossword Society (subscription charge.)

As some of you might know there used to be a blog like this one dedicated to the Daily Telegraph cryptic crossword. Since its demise a few people have asked if we would be covering the puzzle on this blog. And on a separate note, one of our bloggers asked me about the possibility of covering the Telegraph’s advanced cryptic series, called Enigmatic Variations.
