After struggling long and hard the previous day with Nimrod in the Indy (the other alter ego), I started solving this puzzle, expecting no mercy. So, it was pleasantly surprising that I got through most of the clues without much problem. Only 5 and 13,14 caused me to pause.

The definition seemed obvious enough but “a self-made bed?” Then I remembered the expression “You’ve made your bed and now you have to lie in it”. Chambers nailed it for me : lie in the bed one has made = to have to accept the consequences of one’s own acts.
17,18 LADY JANE GREY Ins of Y JA (years German for yes) in *(legendary). Lady Jane Grey, (1536/1537–12 February 1554), also referred to as Queen Jane, a grandniece of Henry VIII of England, reigned as uncrowned Queen Regnant of the Kingdom of England and Kingdom of Ireland for nine days in July 1553.
