The usual sound and enjoyable stuff from Phi - there don’t seem to be many novels here and I wonder if I’m missing anything.

NOVEL I think it’s NO VE(I)L. I agree with you about GAME. Excellent from Phi as usual

I think that you could argue that a THORN is a “sore point”, as in something that annoys. I also agree with your interpretations of 1, 16 and 25. Being a bit of a heathen I struggled with the novels and had to wait until I had nearly all the checking letters. But an enjoyable solve. I particularly liked 18 and 25.

The novels are all by women, so a slightly tighter theme perhaps.

Good spot, Colin, not sure if there was anything else in the puzzle which led to this, but suspect it’s not pure coincidence!
